I've always been drawn to the world of Art and Culture, by colours, text, sound and moving image.
When I decided to take an foundation course in Art, specialising in Fine Art, I was mostly drawn to installation work, including moving image and also print. Having access to screen printing was exciting, I played around with text and image.
On my BA Degree I went down many paths, quite lost in my practice in many ways, I mainly created abstract mixed media works consisting of found materials, text, paint, stitching/embellishment and collage.
After a few years of putting physical art behind me, yet always inspired, taking photographs, writing and carrying around a sketchbook, I came to work in an Art Therapy studio. Again, having access and space to make and create, opened up a sense of aliveness and inspiration. I started my journey using colour and paint both on wood, paper and canvas, often having a few things on the go as part of the process, my own therapy.
I take inspiration from the joy I get from being with children, being inspired by the whimsical, authentic and innocent way in which children draw and paint.
I aim to be curious and playful in my artwork, working with a mixture of materials, exploring with varied themes. Its a therapy, an experiment of whats interior and exterior, light and dark, introverted, extroverted. Most importantly its a means of expression, a way to move things through.
